Board type: Freeride/freestyle directional twin

Profile: Rocker-Camber-Rocker

Flex: Stiff in the middle, medium at the ends

It was only a matter of time before we caved into demands by customers for our next board in the Cold Smoke lineup. New for 2019, we give you the Alchemist, a directional twin that’s sure to become a favorite among die-hard Cold Smoke fans and fill a niche for those predominantly freestyle-minded riders who longed for something a little more skate-inspired than the flagship Voodoo.

“We all felt a directional twin was a needed board in some riders’ quiver,” says Cold Smoke owner Kyle Jones.

The Alchemist features 5 cm of setback and comes in a single length of 161 cm with dimensions of 295-155-290 and a sidecut radius of 8.2. The deck is cambered between the feet with a little more early rise in the nose than the tail. The poplar-core Alchemist’s flex is softer than the Voodoo, with no carbon stringers used in its construction — a factor that will make switch riding and spins feel super-natural and the overall ride more nimble.

The topsheet is black highlighted with smoke and Cold Smoke’s unmistakable logos.

“My kind of board needs to be able to stomp well.”

– Cold Smoke Crew member Rob Vandervoort

For Vandervoort, the Alchemist does just that — offering stiffness in the middle and a softer ride at tip and tail. He’s used a solid version of this deck for comps over the last few seasons, noting that the board’s camber between the feet offers power while rocker at both ends helps the deck “walk into butters.”
